Locality: Felsőszentmárton/Martinci
Played by: „Kovačevićka“ (the wife of Steva Kovačević), folk choir and tambura orchestra
Year: unknown

Comment: According to the Collection, where the transcription is only of a vocal melody, it was performed by Mara Sigečan Guljaševa and girlfriends (nr. 299), but according to the manuscript from the legacy (archive 0009_019), performed by „Kovačevićka“ (the wife of Steva Kovačević), „folk choir“ and „tambura orchestra“ from Martinci. – А “folklorized” composition of Mita Topalović (Pančevo, 1849-1912; see Tomandl, 1938, acc. to Đorđević 1950: 54). Lyric, love song, of elegy charater. The structure is strophic (quatrain with crossed rhyme) and only in the last strophe is repeated second couplet, which is pointed out by the arrangement – instrumental versions of (half)strophe, as interludiums. The singing is traditional two-part, marked by parallel thirds between the parts, with cadences in perfect fifth or possibly in major chord.

NOTE

LYRICS

Kud pogledam, svud je tama,
za me nema svetlila,
moja draga, ona sama,
svetlost mi je odnela;
moja draga, ona sama,
svetlost mi je odnela.

Kud pogledam, svud je tama,
za me nema svetlila,
moja draga, ona sama,
svetlost mi je odnela.

Zar ćeš, draga, pred oltarom,
drugom ruku pružiti,
a ne misliš da za tobom,
do groba ću tužiti.

Našto meni moja majka,
našto li mi sestrica,
kad mi zađe za oblake
sjajna moja zvezdica.
