Comment: The rich musical tradition between the Mura and Rába Rivers surprises the listener by its connection to nature. This contact reflects the carelessness typical of youth, while preserving traces of life completely dependent on the soil, far from urban or international influence. A striking feature of its natural imagery is the motif of the bird, which marks various songs, from love songs to narrative and even soldiers’ songs, and the imitation of birds even entered the children’s tradition. In the Tišina recordings, the bird motif relates to a hilly landscape rather than the plains around Tišina, and it is accompanied by a rather rare image for this environment, that of a hunter. In the song, the symbolic meaning of a bird thus confronts reality, the hard everyday life which young people entered into on marriage.
